The pants cling tightly to the thighs, and the shirt hangs short enough to expose a little of the lower back when she bends, or her belly when she raises her arms.  Ah, the joys of modern fashions!  Or, what about the tank tops that show off the shoulders and underarms?  They're great too.  Yes, men find them unforgettable.

I suppose a common counterargument to modest dress could go something like this: "I'm just wearing what's in style.  I don't want to be an old prude."  I'm not suggesting ladies have to dress like the Amish to dress modestly--although the Amish certainly could teach us a few things--but there are plenty of websites that sell modest clothes for women.  Either online or in a brick and mortar store ladies can find something that's beautiful and modest.  It might not be easy, but it can be done.

While no one in this great country of seemingly endless selections would have to pick between modesty and fashion, I wish professing Christian women would choose modesty and character over trends.  As Proverbs 31:30 says, "Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised" (NIV).  And then there are the verses in 1 Timothy 2 which say, "I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God" (NIV).  So, the next time you're shopping for something stylish, just remember, what the culture calls fashion God may call fleeting and seductive.
